During the World Defense Show (WDS) held in Riyadh from 6-9/3/2022, the Saudi Ministry of Defense signed two contracts with the French defense company Thales for the benefit of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Force (RSADF).
The Undersecretary at the Ministry of Defense for Procurement and Armament Ibrahim Bin Ahmed Al-Suwayed is expected to have additional conversations with Thales Saudi Arabia President Pascal Lesaulnier, about various air defense systems in the Thales portfolio.
Al-Suwayed is reported to be interested in purchasing ground-based short-range defense solutions against air and surface threats.
The major area of interest is a package said to be based on Thales’ ForceShield systems.
