An agreement was reached earlier this month between the U.S. and Iran to secure the release of five incarcerated Americans in return for the release of a number of detained Iranians, as well as the unfreezing of Iranian assets held in South Korean banks.
To assess the results of this agreement, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei held separate meetings with President Ebrahim Raisi, and with IRGC commanders.
Tactical Report highlights this matter, including:
- Khamenei’s views on the agreement and the ongoing indirect talks with Washington in light of the U.S. military buildup in the Gulf region
- The views of the IRGC commanders on the indirect talks
- What Khamenei asked from the IRGC commanders
The report also highlights efforts led by the U.S. National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk to expand the circle of mediators between Washington and Tehran.
