On August 14, 2022, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued a presidential decree appointing Air-Vice Marshal Mahmoud Fouad Mohamed Abdel Gawad as the new Commander of the Egyptian Air Force (EAF).
Sources close to the Egyptian Ministry of Defense (MoD) indicate that the appointment of Abdel Gawad in place of Major General Mohamed Abbas Helmi has been agreed upon since the beginning of this year. Also, this came after Helmi's request to transfer to civil aviation, and President El Sisi approved his request.
As a new Air Force commander, Abdel Gawad is seemingly planning to develop the EAF and modernize the Egyptian air fleet.
