The Eastern Fleet of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) began on 4/10/16 a military exercise in the Gulf waters, the Sea of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz, codenamed Gulf Shield 1. The exercise is said to be intended to test the attack capabilities of the Eastern Fleet on the basis of a new RSNF strategic vision being elaborated by Saudi Deputy Crown Prince and Defence Minister Mohammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz.
