Egypt-Italy: No Typhoon deal expected soonnote

Earlier this year, reports from Cairo had suggested that Egypt’s procurement of FREMM-class frigates from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri comes as part of a much larger deal between Italy and Cairo that includes the sale of Eurofighter Typhoon jets.

However, Egypt signed a contract in May for the procurement of 30 more Rafale fighter jets from French defense company Dassault Aviation, after having purchased 24 Rafale fighters in 2015.

In this context, there is talk that Egypt’s contract with France came at the expense of a potential deal with Italian defense company Leonardo for the sale of Eurofighter Typhoons.

Tactical Report has prepared a 486-word report to shed more light on this subject.
