Previously, Egypt had exploratory contacts with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) for the procurement of Soryu class submarines.
The Soryu is built by MHI in collaboration with Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI).
Alexandria Shipyard is in talks with Japan’s Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation (KSC) for transfer of technology (TOT) and license agreements concerning the export and local production of Soryu class submarines.
KSC is the shipbuilding subsidiary of KHI.
Tactical Report has prepared a report (348 words) highlighting the latest updates on this matter, including:
- The Japanese technologies to be included in the TOT
- An upcoming visit by an Egyptian delegation to Japan
The report also highlights the status of talks between Egypt and Naval Group regarding the Barracuda-class attack submarine, as they were going in parallel with the Soryu talks.
