Egypt is said to be in exploratory contacts with the Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) for the procurement of Soryu class submarines.
A delegation of the Egyptian Navy reportedly visited Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) shipbuilding dry-dock in Kobe, Japan earlier this year to have a look at the submarine capabilities.
