UAE, Turkey, and the Afghan filenote

Emirati National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed paid a surprising visit on Wednesday (19/8/21) to Ankara to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Several questions have been raised about the reasons behind this visit, since the UAE and Turkey are known to not be on good terms over several regional files, including notably those of the Eastern Mediterranean, Iraqi Kurdistan, and the situation in Libya.

There is talk that Sheikh Tahnoon’s visit actually revolved around the UAE’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate with Turkey on the Afghan file.

Tactical Report has prepared a 373-word report to shed more light on this subject and on the Emirati position on the Turkish role in Afghanistan.
