Qatari Minister of State for Defense Affairs Khaled Al-Attiyah and the French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu reached in July 2023 an initial agreement encompassing collaboration across various naval fields, particularly in addressing underwater threats.

The Qatari Ministry of Defense (MoD) is said to be in contact with the French Ministry of Armed Forces since the beginning of 2024 to implement this agreement.

The following note provides a comprehensive overview of the following aspects:

- The systems Qatar is looking to procure

- The reason behind the Qatari interest

- A French company expected to be involved

The note also highlights the recent meeting between the Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Lt-General Salem Bin Hamad Al-Nabit and the French Chief of the Defense staff General Thierry Burkhard.
